As you know, required labeling of GMO’s in America is something I am deeply passionate about. On November 5, the citizens of Washington state will be voting on Prop 522, which would require the labeling of genetically modified ingredients in the state of Washington. Many people have asked me why a girl in Kansas would care about labeling laws in Washington.
Here’s the deal, if Prop 522 passes in Washington state, food manufacturers nationwide will begin to reformulate their products with non-GMO ingredients. After all, according to the New York Times, 93% of polled Americans say that they would avoid GMO’s if only they knew how. If it’s on a label, you’d know how.
Unfortunately, the corporate food giants are spending millions of dollars on false advertising to confuse Washington voters. Just last year, they spent over $46 million to defeat a similar proposition in California. Luckily, those that support labeling are better equipped to fight back this year. I’m excited to share this quick video from the Bronner family (they make Dr. Bronner’s magic soap, which our family loves) on why getting genetically modified ingredients is so important and how you can help make it happen. Be sure to share this with your family and friends, so that we can reach as many of the Washington voters as possible.
Thanks so much and Happy November! I am thankful for each and every one of you, and the progress we are making in the battle for safer food. 🙂
